Sexist Legends

This rather perfectly sums up the sexist attitude of the all-male Legends (TM)

God forbid anyone show an interest in female artists. Or even just to be a man who likes women, gosh how disgusting is that idea!

Thanks to our sources for the above screenshot.

Iran Revolution : The Sequel?

How good would that be! Getting rid of Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollah....if Frank Drebin were involved it would be even better!

Posted these over the weekend;

And also a Kari Jobe interview from KCBI from the end of January, which i've been meaning to post for weeks now. It includes a few acoustic performances;

Shoutout

To The Legends (TM). Howdy y'all let's sing the Trilogy and shoot each other with our cap guns.

(This is an in-joke amongst "BCM" members, not really a joke as such, more what they meet every week to do. Apologies to those not in the know.)

Thanks for the free advertising by the way guys....

Children's TV & All That

I grew up in the 90s loving such shows as Ducktales, ALF, the original Power Rangers and Johnny Bravo. Alongside those new shows though I loved Cartoon Network because it showed the older Hanna Barbera and Warner Bros offerings. Top Cat, Scooby Doo, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Richochet Rabbit, Tom & Jerry - I still love all those today.

I hate how those kind of cartoons are now relegated to a seperate channel or worse, are only on in the middle of the night. Cartoon Network really is a shadow of it's former self.

Don't get me wrong, I love new(er) shows like Phineas & Ferb, The Suite Life, Hannah Montana and Sonny With A Chance but sometimes they seem a tad clichéd and formulaic for my tastes. iCarly fascinates me also.

One thing I REALLY hate is CGI remakes of classic shows. Thomas The Tank Engine, Fireman Sam and I hear now Postman Pat (although that was ruined anyway with all this SDS nonsense) is going to be turned into a cheap CGI show. I saw an episode of the CGI Garfield the other day though and it was, quite shockingly, funny.

Two of my favourite movies as a kid were Ducktales : Treasure Of The Lost Lamp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhTRRJdroSs) and The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX51bfLKeb0)

Alison Krauss & Union Station Return!

At long last, AK&US will release a follow up to 2004's Lonely Run Both Ways. The new album is titled Paper Airplane and is expected to be released in April.

I had the pleasure in 2005 of seeing this great band at Glasgow's Armadillo - my first ever concert in fact. I feel Alison's performance of A Living Prayer on that September night was the catalyst for my journey to faith. There was something in not just the lyric, but the passion and real emotion in her voice.

New Bands With The Wrong Attitude III

Click to make larger.

And there you have The Legends' (TM) mentality in a nutshell. Sad but true.

This "Coatbridge hardman" - and his mother - hounded me and a friend on Facebook earlier in the month, but none of them had the brains to keep up a sustained fight.

Unless You're Xenophobic, You Won't Have Heard Of Them

"Unless you listened to country radio programmes or Radio 2 then Joe public wouldn't know of Sugarland."

What an ignorant and insulting statement. Even if you don't like them, any Country fan with ears to hear will have heard of Sugarland long before their appearance on Graham Norton last night....

Another fine example of the xenophobic, small mindedness of The Legends (TM).

One wonders how they would use that argument to combat the fact that most of The Legends (TM) are unknown outside their very small, one might say microscopic, circle.

Tickets And A Rainbow

My Dolly Parton & Taylor Swift tickets both came this morning :-D

New Bands With The Wrong Attitude II

I was just checking the original video I post on, only to find that my original comment had been deleted. A perfect example of how these self declared Legends cannot take any constructive negative criticism.

New Bands With The Wrong Attitude

Does a new band who are looking to be big really want to start off it's career by displaying a rather rude attitude to anyone who offers well constructed advice to them?

Upon viewing a video of these "legends in the making", I and a friend noticed that for some bizarre reason none of the band were playing in the same key. Coupled with that uniquely British compunction to put forth an American accent when singing Country music - despite the band all being from England - I felt compelled to post a comment on the video.

In return for my thoughts, one of the band decided to rifle through my own Youtube videos and rather unfairly criticise my musical ability. In yet another bizarre move they even quoted scripture at me. This struck me as odd given they don't believe. I might go into that weird aspect of the British Country scene at a later date.

Next Post

Think the next "British Country Fans And...." may be called "...Legends"..... It'll cover of course the infamous self-proclaimed "Legends" of the British Country scene (such as it is), as well as the "extremist" views of the Westerners.

British Country Fans And God

I intend this to be the first in a series of "British Country Fans And....." posts. I'll be taking a look at a range of topics involved with Country music and it's fans here in the UK. This first post deals with Religion in Country....

Since time eternal, Country music has been associated with the American South and it's Gospel tradition. The first big Country group, The Carter Family, sung many songs about God. Hank Williams too wrote and recorded a good number of 'Country-Gospel' songs such as I Saw The Light, Calling You, Lost On The River, The Battle Of Armageddon and lots more.
Right through it's history, from Hank and Roy Acuff in the 40's and 50's right up till the present day, the Grand Ole Opry has also held Gospel music at it's heart. Early 2008 saw the release of How Great Thou Art : Gospel Favorites From The Grand Ole Opry, with contemporary artists covering such track as The Old Rugged Cross, Give Me Jesus and of course Carrie Underwood's famous take on the title track.
With faith in Jesus Christ being such a long established part of Country music in America, one would think that international fans would respect the faith, and it's part in their favourite genre, even if they themselves do not believe.

Sadly, I have found that many British Country fans do not have this respect. Indeed they are vehemently opposed to this aspect of the music. In Country clubs the length and breadth of Britain, as well as at concerts of respected artists (for example a recent visit by Marty Stuart, and of course Willie Nelson always includes a Country Gospel medley in his shows) songs such as I Saw The Light are met with with much mirth and merriment by far too many "fans".
Many expressed extreme displeasure with Marty's visits to various churches and cathedrals and mocked his Gospel medley near the end of his UK shows, and I have seen people actually reduced to literally ROFL when seeing people stand up and really get into Willie's Gospel medley.

Quite why these people feel the need to mock Country artists - and their fans - for their faith is somewhat beyond me. And it goes far beyond mocking people. They actually complain that God or Jesus are included and mentioned by artists, not just at concerts but in interviews, award acceptance speeches...they seem to be part of the "freedom of speech, but not for all" movement.
On the whole through personal experience both on the live music scene and online, I have found that these people are thankfully a minority.
What I find disturbing though is that the ones doing all this are mostly older men, who really should know better. There are also deeper psychological problems in their relations with women involved, but that's for another post in the future!

The question I pose is this : Why be a fan of a genre of music, when you know that something you don't like is going to be included in every album, every concert, every interview an artist gives? Why can't you show the respect for others that you demand others give you?

My Life In Brief : Boy To Legend

I was born on January 27th, 1987 in Bellshill, Scotland and soon after my family moved to Kirkintilloch where i've lived to this day.
I grew up in one part of town and moved to another part in my first year of high school. I've had a whole bunch of jobs since leaving but nothing permanent sadly.
My great loves are Jesus, music (mostly Country/Christian but a lot of Pop too), reading and spending time with my family.
I taught myself to play guitar a few years ago and some of my recordings (mostly covers but a few originals) are on my Youtube page www.youtube.com/davidn87

I had planned on this little bio being longer but I developed writers block right after starting it....

Welcome

Behold, for this is my first blog in nearly 2 years (apparently, I made one in 2008 posted once and then forgot about it)...

A post shall follow entitled My Life In Brief : Boy To Legend
